So the time has come for your first time in the float pod. You are a little anxious, nervous and not sure what to expect from floatation therapy. So lets help dispell some of that nervous energy and give you some tips to make your first float truly memorable.

1. Come in a relaxed mood.

Take some time to relax your mind and body to get ready for the super experience to come. Coming straight from a stressful day at work, or fighting through traffic may leave you feeling a wreck.  So get your mind, body & soul prepared for the journey.  Take some deep breaths, read a book, have a massage, close your eyes and meditate, think of a nice time in your past etc.

2. Do not have any set expectations.

Although some people experience out of body experiences or psychadelic lights, dont go in the pod expecting these or you could be dissapointed. Just look at your floatation session as 60 minutes time to yourself, that will also be great for your health and mind.  Dont try to stop your thoughts, think differently or meditate if thats not your thing. Just let your mind go where it wants to, relax as much as you can, and be open to the experience.

3. Dont be nervous of the floatation pod.

Many people are understandably a little nervous when they first float. Being claustrophobic, sinking, not being able shut off your thoughts etc. The pods are the size of a small car and you are in full control of leaving the top open or partially closed. Everybody feels much better after seeing them in person. Whatever size or shape you are, everybody floats and it’s impossible to sink. Any other fear can be resolved by talking to our staff.

4. Don’t worry about what to think.

Many people get stressed over what they should think about while floating. The answer is that it doesnt really matter Everyone is different and there are no rules. You can think whatever you like, and your float will still providemany physical and mental benefits.

Why this helps: When you’re floating for the first time, you’ll have an adjustment period. The first float is all about getting to know what it’s like when you’re left alone with yourself, how it feels to float on top of water and what kind of thoughts flood your mind that you may not have been aware of before. Each time you float it’s a new experience, and some floats you’ll drift off into a meditative place and some floats you may strategize and plan your to-do list. It’s all good!

5. Go on a light stomach and avoid drinking a lot of fluids before you float.

Being in a tank with complete sensory deprivation means you become very aware of your body. So to avoid bloating or digestion noises it is best to either have a very light meal or nothing at all before your float. Avoiding too much drinking is obvious as you cannot go for a pee in the pod!

Avoiding caffeine or high energy drinks will help you to be in a relaxed state and make it easier to achieve the theta brain state.

6. Have some quiet time after your float to integrate the experience.

Coming out of a floatation session and jumping into the hurley burley of everyday life can be disconcerting. Take some time to reflect on the experience you have just had.

7. Make floating a regular self-care event.

Floating at cloud 10 is not expensive, especially when compared to other wellness and relaxation services like massage,  spa days, yoga etc. It can also be argued it gives many more benefits than those activities. You not only have a host of mental benefits but also physical. reducing your cortisol levels, balancing your hormones and for some even losing weight or breaking an addiction, you’re also getting a chance to do some deep personal work, undisrupted business strategy or catch up on some much needed rest.

8. First timers sometimes find they bump into the sides of the pod, do this to prevent it.

After you shower, dry your face/ears and put in your earplugs. 2) Step into the tank and lie on your back. 3) Put your arms out to the sides of the tank and hold yourself still for 20-30 seconds or until you feel stabilized. 4) Release your arms to your sides and you’ll find yourself floating in one spot without bobbing around.

9. Have a lukewarm shower prior to floating.

If you have a hot shower then when you enter the pod it can feel a little chilly. This is because our water is skin temperature, so cooler than the shower you just had!
